In today's fast paced and highly mobile world, the spread of different types of airborne diseases is definitely on the rise. Just recently the H1N1 pandemic was in the news and the concerns about protecting individuals from these types of influenza viruses and other types of bacteria have never been higher. Using new, cutting edge types of technologies such as ultraviolet sanitizer units to rid the air of these contaminants is the most effective and efficient way to ensure the air circulating through your building or workplace is contaminant free.

Ultraviolet sanitizers are typically associated with hospital buildings, doctor's offices and clinical types of settings. Often long term care facilities such as nursing homes and rehabilitation centers also use some type of ultraviolet sanitizer in common areas or as part of an overall disease prevention program. Virtually any healthcare facility will have some form of airborne contaminant management system; however these older systems, many which simply include UV lighting, are only partially effective.

UV sanitizers that actively work to filter the air, some moving as much as 471 cfm or cubic feet per minute are now available and on the market. This high level of throughput ensures that not only is the air circulated, but also it is done quickly and continuously. Compare this to UV overhead lights that simply provide limited impact on airborne contaminants that just happen to pass through their range of UV light. Through technology that actually proves movement and flow to the air it actually passes the air over UV lamps as well as going though both HEPA filters and an activated carbon filter prior to arriving at the lamps. The HEPA filter in the ultraviolet sanitizer is able to remove up to 99.9% of all particles in the air that are up to 0.3 microns in size.

From the filtering technology of the HEPA filter the air then moves over an activated carbon stage. This is critical to remove all the irritants and allergens from the air. These allergens are typically found in the air; however those that are hypersensitive to their presence will have chronic health problems unless the air filtration and UV sanitizers used in the facility are in place and functioning on a routine basis. Many o of the older types of UV sanitizers didn't have this capacity, however there are now options to include both the ultraviolet sanitizer benefits as well as air filtration for a complete treatment of the air in any type of facility, building or indoor area.

Other options include a mobile room ultraviolet sanitizer that uses high levels of UV light to literally bombard and kill any contaminants in unoccupied rooms. The systems are incredibly fast, purifying the air in an eight foot radius of the ultraviolet sanitizer unit in just 5 minutes, and a full 17 foot radius within 10 minutes. These types of ultraviolet sanitizers also have built in sensors that shut off the unit if anyone enters the room during the air cleaning and sanitizing cycle.
