What products are used to pack a wound for a small sinus on the foot? My father is diabetic (controlled) and had 3 toes amputated d/t gangreen & infection, the area is healing well except for a sinus approx 1 inch deep, with exposed bone. He is on antibiotics by mouth and iv. The nurses are using ribbon gauze soaked in normal saline, but the sinus is not improving. He does have good blood flow to the foot, since he had by-pass surgery involving the femoral artery. Would packing the sinus with topical antibotics or some other type of product be more benificial?
