I was wondering if with a NellCor Pulse Oximeter 595 it was possible to do near-real time data acquistion and communicate that with a computer. We are developing a device that we would like to encorporate a pulse oximeter into and would need to be able to interface with it directly. Can the length of tubing make a significant difference in what is ordered verses what the patient actually receives? Can there be loss of O2 through tubing?

Generally speaking, the length of the tubing has minimum impact on the delivery of oxygen.  The O2 tubing is designed to minimize the internal wall friction between the gas and the tube itself.  You may wish to closely inspect the tubing for cracks or improper sealing.  Hope this helps.

I have seen it previously but unfortunately have forgotten the name of the company producing it .
