Question
Hello, I am a postpartum nurse who works in a large hospital. Just wondering if your company has stance on putting two babies twins in one bassinet after delivery? Not a crib per se, which is much larger, but just the in-hospital bassinet, is what I am wondering about. Some nurses say that that is how it has been done forever and is fine and some say it can cause SIDS, having another baby face to face, rebreathing each other's air? I have tried researching online but have found very little if anything written about it-- articles just address twins sharing a crib at home. Any input would be appreciated
Answer
We only carry one bassinet which is suitable to accommodate twins (http://www.medical-supplies-equipment-company.com/product/ppf/id/22994/new_prod_full.asp).
The manufacturer recommends when having newborn twins in the same bassinet (with at minimum same sleeping surface size as the unit mentioned above), to have them placed side by side but with baby a's head placed at one end and baby b's head placed at the opposite end to avoid any issues with re-breathing air.

Question
How long does it take to heat How long will it stay heated? Is a cover available? Is there tie or velcro closure? Is it compartmentalized to prevent beads from transferring side to side? How much does it weigh? What is the one-side heating about?
Answer
Heating time is 1 minute 30 seconds initially, if it is not warm enough, it may be heated in addittional 30 second increments.
The unit may stay heated approximately 15 to 20 minutes.
Covers are available for purchase.
The closure is a tie closure located approximately 1-2 inches from each end.
The unit is compartmentalized so that beads will not move anywhere but within their compartment.
The unit weight is approximately 3 pounds.
The one-sided heating is that the material only allows moist heat to radiate from the side of the wrap.

Question
Is this suitable for decon situations
Answer
Thank you for your inquiry. It is not recommended that this cot be used for a decon situation.
Equipment for decon is specialized. Patients or those to be decontaminated are usually brought to an area where portable facilities are set up. If on a cot, they are transferred to a spineboard and put on a roller system so they can be “decon’d”. Ambulatory patients or victims usually pass through special deluge showers.
The bottom line, cots are not normally used for this. While our cots are made with aluminum, vinyl, etc., there could be damage to the nuts/bolts and possibly the bearings in the wheels, so we advise against use for decontamination purposes.
